Bali as The Best Tourist Island in 2005
10 August 2005, 07:22:55 - (2080 hits)There is Mount Desert Island at the 10th position for the World’s Best 10 Tourist Island in 2005, and Hawaii at the 9th position, outperformed by Sicily, Cyclades, Vancouver Island, Great Barrier Reef Islands, Kauai, Maui, and Santorini.
Those nine tourist islands are the world has to offer as the best ones from different continents. However, there is one island left as the ultimate tourist island, awarded as the World’s Best Tourist Island in 2005. The award goes to Bali, Island of Gods, located in the southern part of Indonesia, between Java Island and Lombok Island. Bali, in fact, received the same award for the last year winner, overlooking all the other nine islands in the world.
Why Bali? Those who reluctantly wondered could concurrently testify that Bali certainly deserves the title of the best tourist island. But when it comes with the so-called “World’s Best”, this has to be something very much special, especially for Indonesians. Several variables included in the yearly survey done by The Travel+Leisure Magazine are natural attractions, activities/ sights, restaurants/ food, people, and the value of money spent. That is just about everything Bali has to offer. The respondents were asked to rate the nominees on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 means ‘excellent’, and 1 means ‘poor’. Given only one chance to vote, they started to take part in magazine and internet ballot from January 21, to July 21, 2005.
In other category from the same survey, the readers of the magazine had also voted that Four Seasons Resort Bali in Sayan, not far from the heart of Ubud, is the Best Hotel in Asia in 2005. Several other Balinese hotels are among the 25 best hotels according to the magazine; i.e.: Four Seasons Resort in Jimbaran Bay on the 8th rank, the Amandari on the 14th rank, and the Amankila on the 21st rank.
These international awards have designated a certain level of significance to the Indonesian tourism sector. Firstly, it has become clear that the local government, together with other NTA/NTOs, have done greatly to develop and maintain Bali as the actual dream tourist destination. Secondly, international confidence bestowed upon Indonesia, especially Bali, has revived, as it is an invaluable asset for the government who has been resolving exuberant endeavors to regain international confidence after some series of national hardship. Thirdly, a new light of hope that reaching the tourist visit target is something visible as the international community acknowledge the freshest fact about Bali.
