The best known place on the south coast is Lombok`s Kuta (sometimes spelt "Kute"), a magnificent althugh deserted stretch of white sandy beach with rugged hilld rising around it. It has far fewer tourists or facilities then Senggigi Beach, and retains a rural feel, with water buffalo grazing in the streets of the main losmen area.
The main attractions are the surrounding surf beats and craft villages. If these don`t interest you don`t go out of your way to come to laze on the beach here. The local beach sellers are extremely annoying and often quite persistant.
The best time to visit is in February or March when crowds flock here for the Nyale fishing celebration.
